SonLight Community Church in Angola, Indiana is ready for a new beginning. Following a season of significant challenge, including the pandemic, a resilient core group of people are eager to turn the page and move into a brighter tomorrow. They need an experienced Pastor to love them and lead them as they embark on a new path toward a vibrant future and deeper impact in their region.

SonLight is a church filled with potential. They want to “to bring people to Jesus, build into people like Jesus, and send people out to replicate like Jesus” but need a vision and plan to bring that idea to life. The modern facility is beautiful and includes a 450-seat worship center. Once known as a “seeker-sensitive church,” SonLight welcomed people from a number of communities surrounding Angola and attendance grew to around 1,200 attendees. But misalignment in hiring and short-tenured pastors led to shifts in vision, direction, and style which led to confusion and diminished effectiveness. Today the church has greater clarity and unity and is ready to revitalize. They desire a Lead Pastor who will offer applicable biblical preaching in a warm, engaging style. They are excited to work with a relational pastor who enjoys working with the people to pray, plan, equip, and deploy them with purpose and direction.

The right Lead Pastor will be an experienced pastoral leader who is energized to lean into the challenges of revitalization. This includes assessing what is working and what needs improvement, working with the elders and others to discern the right plan forward, and then casting a compelling, consistent vision that engages the congregation to make it happen. Ideally, this candidate will view ministry opportunities through a biblical lens, understand best practices and know how to contextualize them to the uniqueness of SonLight and the greater Angola region. There are so many good things here just waiting to be maximized! The ideal candidate will recognize the potential in people and opportunities, and lovingly motivate, teach, and guide people to see it realized.

Located in the beautiful lakes district of the northeast Indiana/Michigan border, SonLight is located in the town of Angola, a community of 9,000 people. Angola is the county seat of Steuben County and a hub for the 35,000 people who live in surrounding smaller communities. Home to Trine University, Angola is a thriving blend of local and campus communities. With a very affordable cost of living, great neighborhoods, abundant lakes, and outdoor activities nearby, Angola is a lovely place to call home.
