From their earliest days, Grace Pointe Church (naperville.gracepointe.us/) in Naperville, IL has felt a sense of urgency to “help as many people become as much like Jesus in the shortest time possible.” As part of their dream to see a “world full of healthy local churches,” the new role of Discipleship Pastor has been created to take intentional disciple-making at Grace Pointe to the next level.
During the pandemic, there has been a measurable growth spurt in the categories of young families, children, and young adults. While existing ministries of small groups (called “life groups”) and age-defined Sunday classes have absorbed some of this growth, there is a noticeable need for focused intentionality to strengthen and broaden the systems and processes needed to ensure cradle-to-grave disciple-making ministries achieve their full potential.
This pastor will champion “all things discipleship.” In addition to overseeing the Discipleship Ministries, this pastor will preach a handful of times annually and provide oversight to the children and student ministries. This is an intentional, strategic shift that highlights the church’s need for and value on focused systems and processes to ensure a “cradle-to-grave” approach to discipleship. A good foundation exists but participation has been flat, and a well-defined, clearly communicated pathway of discipleship is needed. Subject matter expertise is required for this role, but more importantly, an ability to apply this expertise into Grace Pointe’s unique ministry landscape is essential.
This servant-leader will love people, empower life groups, invest in relationships, and possess a deep understanding of discipleship. The right fit will connect easily, possess a warm personality, and have high relational intelligence. The ideal candidate will identify the best plan to elevate the ministry and implement a strategic discipleship pathway that positively impacts the church and community. As a subject matter expert in discipleship, this experienced leader will craft and implement a plan that makes sense within the context of Grace Pointe.
