We know that ministry to the Church is both the most challenging and the most rewarding thing you can give your life to. Helping churches and pastors navigate these seasons effectively is a great reason to get up and go to work every day. Each of our team members specializes in a different area and brings an exceptional depth of understanding and experience to the churches we serve.
We want to give you a little peek into the work of our Assessment Director, Abby Knowles!
1. Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your vocational background?
I was born in Anderson, Indiana. I am the oldest of four kids, and our mom and dad served in full-time ministry for 38 years. I grew up in Washington state and Florida before going to Anderson University in Anderson, IN. I am a graduate of the Seattle School of Psychology and Theology where I completed my Master’s degree. I returned to my alma mater, Anderson U, and worked on staff for 10 years in Student Life before moving over to NL Moore and Associates. I have 3 kids and an amazing husband, and we live in Noblesville, Indiana.
2. What is your role at NL Moore & Associates, and what does it entail?
I am the Director of Assessment. I hold numerous certifications in different assessment tools that help our team understand a person’s personality pattern, motivated behaviors, and how people are adapting and having to move in their current environments. We also have a unique tool that we work with that gives us an amazing perspective about the landscape of a school, organization, or church. I have the opportunity to work with some additional colleagues that help to assess candidates, and I spend most of my days evaluating candidates for specific roles or working with teams and assessing the gifts they have around their table. I spend a lot of time on the phone and a lot of time writing reports. 🙂
3. What does your process look like?
I truly believe that assessments are merely the start of a conversation. It’s through conversation that I begin to see connections and develop lots of questions. I absolutely love that every person and every conversation is unique. It’s like a puzzle I get to try and put together. And it’s for no greater cause but to grow the Kingdom here on earth!
4. What’s the most rewarding part of your role?
When I hear that people took something away from our conversation, that lights up my day. Early on in my days of knowing Nancy Moore, she said that she wants to be a blessing to everyone we work with. A limited number of the people I talk to will actually get the job they are applying for, but I want to be able to offer a helpful conversation, encouragement, or whatever I can to bless that individual in that moment. When I hear back that it’s been helpful to them, it adds gas to my energy tank.
